Samaria is a hole-in-the-wall pizzeria in terms of it's looks, and I love its aesthetics for that very reason. It just has an appealing, old-school NYC pizzeria vibe.
They have a small Greek flag by the front window, and after talking to some staff, learned that they're Cretan. This makes sense since the restaurant is named after a gorge in Crete.
The pizza isn't amazing, but was solidly tasty. It was definitely an older slice, topped with extra sauce and cheese and reheated, but again it tasted fine so no real complaints.
I guess in general, I'd ideally love a fresh(er) slice. Nonetheless, I'll be back. -

My sister and I came here because she was starving. We ordered 2 slices one with pepperoni and one with just cheese. She wanted me to base this review using her opinion of this pizza place and the taste of the pizza. However, I'm sort of stuck because the flavor was a 4, but the price for what I received, the lady's attitude, the dim lighting, the small amount of sauce, and the preparation of the pizza warrants a 3 star rating.
First: The price for the lack of ingredients (sauce and cheese) on the slices is outrageous. Three bucks for a slice with a few pepperoni pieces and thrown on cheese I don't think so that's a no no. Now if it was a normal amount of ingredients like every other $3 pizza spot then I would not be complaining.
Second: it felt like I was walking into a dungeon. It's enough the space is small, okay sure they can't do much about that (it has always been small), but hello I would like to see what I'm eating. So we ended up eating in the car.
Third: The old lady got a bit snippy with me. She's lucky I now know how to control my anger a bit better, just a bit. I am going to just say this- don't show up to work if you don't feel like serving your customers or greeting your customers.
*The older man (probably her husband) now he was very nice he smiled and made eye contact.
I can tell you this- a few years ago this was the go to pizza spot. My family and friends that come to Queens really likes the pizza here so... I'd say give this place a try and if your experience is anything like mine was move on to a different pizza spot. There are plenty of pizzerias out here. -

This place is pure old school no frills pizza, its even got an arcade machine here, I think its more a decoration. Anyway there are lot of other places that are more well known in Astoria such as Sacs and Rizzos but this place is the best pizzeria in Astoria easily, its also one of the best in the city hands down. Even beats the old school Calabros around the corner easily.
Some people might think this place is a dive or too simple but places like this one are the reason New York City is famous for pizza. The sauce is quite a thing here, its not real sweet but not too savoury either, very balanced only a few other pizzerias I know of make sauce this way.
